Got a hot date?

By Marissa Mayo

Who’s to say that a “cheap date” is a bad thing? Let’s be honest, most teenagers don’t have the money to be taking their significant other or possible love interest out on a romantic helicopter ride over a sunset in Newport, am I right? On top of the common, casual, weekend dates, February 14th is quickly approaching. So, if you’re fresh out of ideas on the whole “casual dating” thing, and you maybe have a special someone in mind to take out on the most romantic day of the year, then here’s some ideas on how to fit it into the typical broke high school / college teen budget.

Everybody gets hungry, and everybody eats. Food is also known as the most common way to come together and connect with someone. It can spark conversation, and helps to keep it going. Going out to dinner can be quite costly, however. So to sweep her off her feet with a cheap dinner for two, check out the “2 for $20” deals at Chili’s or Applebee’s, both including two appetizers and two entrée’s.

For the perfect excuse to hold the other person’s hand, take him or her out to ice skate at Kennedy Plaza in Providence. Although a little embarrassing to be slipping and falling everywhere, everyone around you will be too! It’s a fun and entertaining way to try something new, and laugh while you’re doing it. Admission is $6.00, and skate rentals are $4.00 (skating season: November 24th, 2011 – March 17th, 2012) Open Monday - Friday 10am to 10pm Saturday and Sunday 11am to 10pm

Whether it’s a romantic comedy, a spine chilling thriller, or something in between – going out to see the latest movies can’t go wrong, and is a sure way to have a good time, without breaking your budget. “Super Tuesdays” at Cinema World located in the Lincoln Mall only $6.00 per person all day for any movie in theaters.

Impress him or her by striking out in the alley – bowling, of course! Bowling is a fun and silly way to take the edge off and have a good time. A little friendly competition can always spice up the night; maybe even make playful bets on who will win! East Providence Lanes has a “Dollar Mania!” almost nightly: Sunday thru Thursday evenings 9:30 pm - 1:00 am. For $2.00 a Game and $2.00 for Shoes $1 Hot Dog, $1 French Fries, and a $1 Small Soda, where could you go wrong?

Not in the mood for a sit down dinner, too impatient to wait in the lines to be seated? Grab a quick bite to eat at Nice Slice on Thayer St, Providence. Numerous choices of delicious, unique pizza slices ranging from a small price of $2.25 - $3.25 and is conveniently open till’ 2 a.m.

For a way to connect and get to know the other person better, chatting over coffee can allow two people to make the sparks fly in a comfortable setting. Coffee Connection located in Cumberland R.I, is just the place to do so. This quaint café is open from 7a.m until 6p.m Mon – Sat and 7a.m – 4p.m Sundays. The prices range, but everything is guaranteed under $10.00.

With a few new ideas in mind, now is the perfect time to take him or her out on the perfect date for the perfect price. Whether it’s for Valentine’s day, or just on any average weekend, any of these ideas are a great way for the average teens to get out and have a good time.
